TCYRC Wraps Up 2025 Spring Season; Receives Bid for Nationals

The Twin Cities Youth Rowing Club (TCYRC) team sent 21 athletes to compete at the 2025 Midwest Junior Rowing Championships on Lake Harsha in Bethel, Ohio held May 17-18.

Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club hosted the regatta featuring 39 rowing clubs from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania (Western), West Virginia and Wisconsin. There was a total of 516 entries competing over two days of preliminary and final races.

Under bright sunny skies, the TCYRC team raced in 6 events, showcasing one boat in the Women’s Novice 4+, three boats in the Women’s Varsity 4+ and two boats in the Women’s Varsity 8+. The team proved successful in advancing all three Women’s Varsity 4+ boats to the finals on Sunday, May 18. Amid stiff competition, the TCYRC boats placed 6th in the Women’s Varsity 4+ and 7th in both the Women’s 2nd Varsity 4+ and Women’s 3rd Varsity 4+.

Following the competition, the TCYRC Women’s Varsity 4+ received a bid to compete in the US Rowing Youth National Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida which takes place from June 12-15. Athletes qualify for this national event through 11 regional regattas held throughout May. This is the 2nd time in 4 years that TCYRC has sent a team to race at this prestigious youth competition, which features the top rowing teams from across the country. The athletes heading to the national competition represent five different area high schools: Tessa Johnson (Hopkins), Phoebe Chin (Edina), Sadie Nistler (Eden Prairie), Katelyn Anderson (Southwest Christian), and Katherine Bixby (Wayzata).
